Torquay, before the start of The Great Ocean Road

7th December

Our very friendly hostel owner gave us a lift to meet an old friend, from university, at the Melbourne Hilton.
From there we hitched a taxi to pick up our camping car. We were dropped at an industrial estate on the outskirts of Melbourne.

The paperwork took about half an hour following which we inspected the vehicle and after two hours we set off on the road.

As we drove away from Melbourne city we got a spectacular view of the skyline from the bridge and we headed towards Geelong. We stocked up on water, fruit and vegetables and some chicken thighs from Aldi and as it was nearing 6pm we headed for a campsite in Torquay before starting the Great Ocean Road.

The site was deserted apart from a large gathering of parrots who took great enjoyment in watching us prepare our dinner of satay chicken and stir fry veg in the drizzle. They took up residence in the tree right above us and proceeded to scare the hell out of us with their really loud cawing.

Welcome to OZ!
